Driver in fatal hit-&-run: I didn't see anything
Police say an East Hills man was arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run in Roslyn Heights.
According to authorities, 26-year-old Thomas Krauss was arraigned yesterday on charges including leaving the scene of an accident with a death and leaving the scene of an incident without a report.
Krauss allegedly mowed down 81-year-old Vaghar Giae while she was using a cane to cross Warner Avenue Monday. Officials say the impact of the crash sent Giae flying about 50 feet. Krauss claims he did not see Giae.
Police say Krauss told his insurance company his car was a victim of a hit-and-run in Queens, and his parents took his car to a body shop. Based on Crime Stoppers calls, police were able to locate the jeep at an auto body shop where it was forensically matched with evidence.
Krauss' bail was set at $1 million bond or $500,000 cash. He faces a maximum sentence of seven years if found guilty. He is due back in court on April 26.
