Lawyer: Teen in van crash not doing well

? The Freeport teen accused of driving high and killing a woman was in the medical section of the Nassau County Jail Friday.

Attorneys say Gerdes is not doing well, but won?t release details of her condition. She is currently unable to be transported to court.

Gerdes is accused of running over a Hempstead woman who was mowing her lawn Tuesday. The 18-year-old cried and apologized for Rebecca Twine?s death on camera, but according to court documents, showed no remorse after the crash.

Gerdes is quoted as saying, ?The thing that made me not feel so bad was she was old. I mean 70 years is a long time to live.?

Gerdes? mother told News 12 Long Island the district attorney should not have released the statement. She says they just did it to trump up their case.
