LI girl, lifesaver friend revel newfound fame

Two best friends from Long Beach Middle School are enjoying the spotlight after one sprang into action, using the Heimlich maneuver to save the other who was choking during class.

Miriam Starobin and Allyson Golden, both 12, have given more than a dozen interviews and will appear on national television.

Starobin says an episode of ?Sponge Bob Square Pants? reminded her how to do the Heimlich.

The school?s principal says he thought only the local newspaper would want to cover the story, but about 24 hours later, the girls started garnering widespread media attention.

Starobin and Golden both say they want to be actresses and are enjoying their first taste of fame.
