Army Ranger from LI killed in Afghanistan

A U.S. Army Ranger from Long Island was killed in action on April 23, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Sgt. Jason A. Santora, who was assigned to the 75th Army Ranger Division, was killed during a firefight in Logar Province, officials say. He was on his sixth deployment.

Santora, 25, was from Farmingville and graduated from Sachem High School in 2003. Army officials say Santora was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal.
