Taxpayers await property tax report card

? Long Island taxpayers are waiting to learn the fate of their property taxes from the state.

The deadline for school districts to hand in their budget numbers to the state passed this weekend. The state will then take those numbers and issue a report that shows the proposed school district tax levy compared to last year.

West Hempstead is proposing a 9.4 percent property tax increase. Districts such as Jericho, which rely less on state aid, are proposing smaller increases.
