11-year-old charged in attack of classmate

Police say an 11-year-old boy was taken into police custody last week after he allegedly tried to harm a fellow student.

According to authorities, the sixth-grade student took his shirt off and wrapped it around his classmate's neck during reading class at Garden City Park Elementary School on April 21. Parents say the boy also put a pair of scissors up to his classmate's neck before another student knocked them out of his hands.

Angela Torres, whose child attends the school, says school officials never notified her about the incident. She and other parents say they're outraged the school failed to inform them about the alleged attack.

The boy has been charged with menacing.
