Brookhaven launches redevelopment plan

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko introduced a new plan yesterday to encourage developers to renovate dilapidated properties in the area.

The initiative, which is called From Blight to Light, offers incentives to redevelop rundown buildings that have become prone to drug deals and other crimes.

Lesko says the town will change zones when warranted, conduct environmental reviews and other steps to help contractors move forward on new projects.

Among the blighted properties to be renovated are the former Plaza Theatre in Patchogue, the former location of Home Depot in Patchogue and the former Route 112 movie theater in Coram.
