Cops: Husband shot wife in N. Amityville

Suffolk police say a North Amityville man shot his wife in the stomach with a shotgun Tuesday night.

Police say 55-year-old Joseph James shot his 38-year-old wife Joanna at around 11:45 p.m. When police got to the house, they found a 12-gauge shotgun lying on the floor near the victim.

James was charged with second-degree assault in the incident. He pleaded not guilty today and told a judge his wife has a drug problem and has threatened his life several times.

James is being held on $200,000 bond. His wife is expected to recover.
