Valdez-Cruz trial could soon head to jury

? The fate of a Westbury man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend could soon be in the hands of a jury.

Leonardo Valdez-Cruz allegedly stabbed Joanna Bird last year after months of threats.

Yesterday the jury heard chilling phone call recordings of Valdez-Cruz threatening to torture her to death.

The defense only called one witness, Valdez-Cruz?s mother. She insisted her son and Bird were a happy couple.

Closing arguments in the murder trial will be tomorrow.
