East Islip teachers agree to new contract

The Board of Education of the East Islip Union Free School District and the East Islip Teachers' Association have agreed to a three-year labor contract that includes an 18-month freeze in teacher salaries beginning with the 2010-11 school year.

The agreement calls for salary increases of 1.95 percent effective February 1, 2012; 1 percent effective July 1, 2012; and 1.5 percent effective February 1, 2013. In addition, teachers who climb the 'steps' of the salary schedule in that time will not receive incremental compensation.

The East Islip Teachers Association ratified the agreement unanimously.

The East Islip Board of Education is expected to ratify the agreement next week.
