Unconscious woman pulled from burning home

Firefighters pulled an unconscious woman and her six dogs from a burning home in Massapequa last night.

The Massapequa Fire Department responded to the home after 7 p.m. to find a fire in the kitchen. Firefighters say the homeowner was passed out and her dogs were lying on top of her trying to protect her.

Neighbors say the unidentified woman is a teacher at the Amityville Middle School and suffers from a medical condition.

The exact cause of the fire is unclear.

The dogs are expected to be OK and the woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
