8,000 compete in Long Island Marathon

The 37th Long Island Marathon, which stretched for 26.2 miles and saw 8,000 people compete, was held yesterday.

Dan McGrath, of Lynbrook, won the event by finishing the marathon in just under two hours and 30 minutes.

The marathon, which once boasted 10,000 participants, is seeing a steady increase in runners.

"This year there are 8,000 people, 20 percent more than last year, the highest in 13 years," says Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.
