Smithtown residents facing persistent flooding

Some Smithtown residents say persistent flooding in their homes has led to mold growth and health concerns.

According to neighbors, the recent record rainfall and past snowstorms have caused their community to back up with waters. Frances Ruta, who lives in the area, says she's dealt with flooding for about 40 years.

Some homeowners have installed new floors, battery and pumping systems and appliances raised on blocks, but their homes are still plagued by flooding and mold.

Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) recently toured the neighborhood and says it may take congressional action to improve the neighborhood.
