Ex-NY Senate Leader Bruno gets 2 years for fraud

(AP) - Joseph Bruno, once one of the most powerful political figures in New York, has been sentenced to two years in jail on two federal fraud counts.

The 81-year-old Bruno was the Republican leader of the stateSenate for 13 years. He was convicted last year of using his officeto help a businessman who paid him as a consultant and in a horseventure, violations of the federal "honest services" law.

The U.S. Supreme Court is reviewing the honest services statutein three other cases, with a ruling expected by the end of June.Bruno will be out on bail until after the court rules. U.S.District Court Judge Gary Sharpe says he'll call the two sides backtogether within six weeks after the ruling.
