Fierce winds sweep across Long Island

Fierce winds wreaked havoc across Long Island yesterday.

The blustery weather, which caused downed trees and power lines, kept LIPA management and crews working 16-hour shifts.

At Jones Beach, Long Islanders walking the boardwalk tried to make the best of the weather, though they were forced to bundle up.

To report an outage or downed power line to LIPA, residents can call 1-800-490-0075 or 631-755-6900.
