Rally held against Smithtown paper's Obama depiction
A protest was held today outside the office of The Smithtown Messenger newspaper after it published a photo spread some are calling racist.
The newspaper published a series of ?before? and ?after? photos of U.S. presidents and first ladies. The Obamas are shown as characters from the TV show ?Sanford and Son.?
The publisher says it wasn?t meant to offend anyone, calling it political satire.
?This is not political,? Leg. DuWayne Gregory (D-Amityville) says. ?This is strictly about respecting our community, respecting the sensitivity that the issue draws."
Gregory says he will introduce a bill to pull the funding the paper gets from Suffolk County.
