Neighbor shoots, kills pit bull in E. Setauket

An East Setauket man shot and killed a pit bull he says was chasing his neighbors yesterday afternoon.

Police say Timothy Devine called 911 reporting the dog was chasing people waiting for their kids to get off the bus on Quail Lane.

Devine told police he heard kids screaming when they got off the bus so he went inside, got his gun and shot the dog when it got within 5 feet of him.

Suffolk police and the SPCA are looking into the shooting, but no charges have been filed.
