Woman shot by officer during Hempstead drug raid

Police say a woman was shot by a Nassau police officer during a drug raid in Hempstead today.

Authorities say state, Nassau and Hempstead police assisted the district attorney's office in carrying out a search warrant at 31 Lafayette Ave. at around 6:30 a.m.

According to police, 23-year-old Natasha Little was hiding in a closet on the second floor and refused to come out. Moments later, Little flung the closet door open and landed near an officer, who shot her in the torso, authorities say.

Police say they arrested two people, including Reginald Lecator, who is facing several drug charges and his mother, Stephanie Swann, who is charged with unlawful use of marijuana.
