Groups accuse duck farm of fouling up river

Elected officials and civic groups are calling on the state to shut down a Moriches duck farm that they say is a major source of river pollution.

The groups say the Jurgielewicz Duck Farm is using its recent bankruptcy to put off making environmental improvements, ignoring a court order.

Peconic Baykeeper Kevin McAllister says the Forge River in Mastic is in horrible condition, but an attorney for the duck farm says there is no evidence that the farm is polluting the river.

The attorney says he is trying to set up a meeting with the state to get a cleanup plan approved. He adds that there is a potential buyer for the farm.
