Work to begin on Wantagh Parkway guide rail

The New York State Department of Transportation announced today that the contractor is making final preparations so that work to install a permanent cable guide rail system along the Wantagh State Parkway can begin shortly.

The cable system will extend for a four-mile stretch from Ocean Parkway at Jones Beach to Cedar Creek Park on Long Island. Officials say the guide rail will further delineate and reinforce the separation between the pathway used by bicyclists and pedestrians and traffic on the roadway.

Officials say a cable guide rail was selected as the most beneficial method of further protecting bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers in the area.

The $653,000 contract for this project was awarded to ANJAC Enterprises in March 2010. Work is expected to be completed by early June.
