Nassau police arrest man for 17-year-old bank heist

Police in Nassau say they?ve just nabbed the man who stole $250,000 from a bank in Lake Success 17 years ago.

Authorities say it was a slip-up that led to the man?'s arrest.

Claude Bird allegedly stormed the EAB bank on New Hyde Park Road with one other gunman in 1993. Police say the heist was an inside job involving a bank teller. Police say Bird?s accomplices were immediately caught.

According to authorities, Bird fled to Jamaica and later re-entered the U.S., living in the Bronx since 1995 under a dead man?s name.

Police say Bird was caught when he tried to apply for a driver?s license using his real name.
