Suffolk County Water Authority employee assaulted

(05/21/10) WOODBURY - The Suffolk County Water Authority says that an employee was assisting with a water turn-on in Patchogue Wednesday night when he was surrounded and assaulted.

Officials say the water had been shut off earlier in the day because the resident's did not pay their bill for a whole year.

Officials say the assault resulted in the employee's jaw being broken on both sides. The employee is currently at Stony Brook University Hospital.

The Suffolk Police Department is investigating the assault. Officials think someone who lives at the home may be responsible.

The Suffolk County Water Authority says its employees have become the target of customers' rising anger and frustration due to financial hardship.
