Stony Brook University holds graduation ceremony

Thousands of graduates collected their diplomas as Stony Brook University held its commencement ceremony Friday.

Although graduates said they are proud to have a degree, many expressed concern about how much that degree is worth in a tough job market.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) spoke to the more than 5,700 graduates during the ceremony, encouraging them to keep trying and that the tide will eventually turn.

The state says there are 6,700 more jobs on Long Island now than compared to last year.

The Stony Brook Career Center says it also plans to help graduates find job placement in the coming year.
