LIers Levy and Lazio vie for GOP gubernatorial nod

State Republicans hold their convention next week to pick their candidate for governor and two Long Islanders are vying for the slot.

Longtime Republican and former Rep. Rick Lazio and Democrat-turned Republican Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy both say they are the right candidate to take on Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Both candidates have been campaigning around the state, touting their experience to upstate New Yorkers, who might not know who they are. Lazio and Levy agree voters have lost faith in state government and want to restore voters? confidence.

If Republicans can't decide on a candidate at the convention, Lazio and Levy would face off in a primary in September.
