2 employees accused of stealing school funds

? Two Bethpage school employees are accused of stealing from the district.

The employees allegedly used school funds to ship more than 1,000 items sold on eBay.

Edward Catalano, of Fort Salonga, and George Maggio, of Levittown, have been charged with grand larceny and official misconduct.

The district attorney says the duo used the district?s UPS account to ship 1,600 items on eBay. Officials say it has cost taxpayers nearly $13,000.

Catalano, the school store clerk, resigned. Maggio is a custodian and has been suspended.

Residents and students say it is especially disturbing that the men allegedly ran the scam at the same time the school district is struggling financially.
