Cuomo accepts governor nomination

Andrew Cuomo became the official Democratic candidate today, completing a rise that began nearly 30 years ago when he ran his father's campaigns for the same office.

Cuomo, who is presently the New York State attorney general, is expected to face off against one of several Republicans who are vying for the GOP nod: former Long Island congressman Rick Lazio, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy or Buffalo developer Carl Paladino.

During his speech to wrap the convention, Cuomo spoke of the need to clean up Albany and restore the public's trust in state government.

AP wire services were used in this report.
