Bus carrying LI kids bursts into flames; none injured

A bus carrying kids with a Long Island church group burst into flames on the Cross Bronx Expressway Extension last night, but none of them was injured.

According to the fire chief, the bus driver smelled smoke and immediately got the kids off the bus and onto the shoulder before the bus burst into flames. Officials say the bus fire was extinguished and crews removed the vehicle from the scene.

It is unknown what church the kids belong to, but officials say they were traveling home from a trip to Pennsylvania during the incident.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
