Wife allegedly targeted in murder-for-hire takes stand

? The wife of a former police officer accused of hiring a handyman to kill her testified in court today.

Former NYPD officer Anthony Battisti is charged with attempted murder. Police say he hired a handyman to kill his wife Patricia last year outside her Franklin Square home.

Prosecutors say the couple was going through a bitter divorce and custody battle at the time and that Anthony Battisti had threatened his wife before. They say Battisti wanted to get rid of his wife so he wouldn't have to pay marital bills.

Patricia Battisti testified in court, ?He told me if I ever messed with his job he would kill me and he knows how to get away with it."

The trial continues Tuesday.
