Police ramping up DWI patrols for Memorial Day

? Police, restaurants and bars across Long Island are ramping up anti-DWI efforts this weekend for Memorial Day.

There will be more police officers on the roads and waters as well as random checkpoints.

At Carle Place restaurant Sugar, bartenders are serving up free non-alcoholic beverages to encourage designated drivers. Other restaurants and bars are doing the same.

For those who do get caught driving or operating a boat drunk, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says her office ?will be there to prosecute every drunk driver to the fullest extent of the law.?

The extra patrols will run through Tuesday morning.
