Memorial Day parades held across Long Island

Memorial Day parades were held in communities across Long Island today.

In Hicksville, school bands played patriotic tunes as families watched in lawn chairs and veteran groups saluted the flag from the parade route.

Hundreds of veterans, including 92-year-old George Eberthardt, who fought in World War II, and his grandson, who fought in the first Gulf War, gathered at Calverton National Cemetery to honor their fallen comrades.

Parades were also held in towns including Long Beach, Kings Park and Saint James.
