Remains of MIA pilot found 66 years later

A Floral Park family celebrated a bittersweet Memorial Day after their loved one's remains were discovered in wreckage more than 65 years after he was declared missing in action.

Lt. Joseph Auld disappeared over Burma in 1944 while serving as an Army pilot during World War II. His relatives say they kept hope alive for several years after his disappearance that he would be found.

Wreckage from Auld's plane was recently discovered and through DNA testing, the then-25-year-old pilot was identified.

Today, Auld's family received the medals he earned and a presidential memorial certificate.

Auld will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in July.
