Marine aircraft mishap injures 10 at Staten Island park

(AP) - The powerful propellers on a U.S. Marine Corpsaircraft have blown tree branches into people on the ground duringa Memorial Day demonstration in a New York City park. Firefighters say 10 people suffered minor injuries. The Osprey MV-22 aircraft was landing at Staten Island's CloveLakes Park around 9 a.m. Monday as part of Fleet Week. The MV-22combines airplane-like wings with rotors that let it take off andland vertically, like a helicopter. Marine Corps spokesman Lt. Josh Diddams says the wind generatedby the aircraft's propellers broke branches off a nearby tree. Thebranches were swept into some people on the ground. Firefighters say seven people have been taken to RichmondUniversity Medical Center. Three others refused medical attention.
