Police: Fake cop targeting Nassau drivers

Police are trying to track down a man who flashed a badge pretending to be a plainclothes cop during two traffic stops on Sunday.

According to police, the man crashed his white Mitsubishi Galant into another car in Baldwin and then started yelling at the driver, demanding he hand over his license.

Two hours later, another driver reported that someone posing as an officer tried to stop him in East Meadow. That driver refused to comply and drove away, but contacted Nassau County police.

Nassau police say they have received 14 reports of people impersonating police officers this year.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
