Medford man arrested for alleged animal abuse

A Medford man was arrested yesterday on felony aggravated animal abuse charges after police discovered his 19-pound Doberman pinscher.

SPCA Sgt. Regina Benfante says the dog was locked in a bedroom full of excrement and couldn?t stand.

SPCA officials say they didn?t expect the dog to survive, but he has and is gaining weight again in their care. They say someone called 911 after hearing the dog. Police say they found him at a home in Centereach 10 days ago.

A friend says the owner, 21-year old Ozkan Guleryuz, moved to Medford a month ago and didn?t know the dog was left behind in the previous home.

Anyone interested in adopting the dog should call the SPCA at 631-382-7722.
