BP frees saw from pipe; oil threatens Florida

(AP) - BP has freed a diamond-tipped saw thathad become stuck underwater in the latest attempt to contain theGulf oil spill, and the company is still working on a way to slicethrough the pipe.

BP PLC spokesman Mark Proegler said Wednesday afternoon that thecompany is working out some logistical issues.

The plan is to fit a cap on the blown-out well at the bottom ofthe Gulf of Mexico to capture most of the spewing oil.

As robot submarines worked underwater, the nation's worst oilslick drifted perilously close to the Florida Panhandle.
