LI contractor rebuilds storm-damaged deck

A Sound Beach woman whose home was severely damaged during the March nor'easter says she has a Long Island contractor to thank for her new deck.

Edith Hotis says the deck beneath her home dropped more than 110 feet into the surf below during the storm. She applied for aid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but was denied. Hotis says she also applied for a loan, but a bank wouldn't grant it.

Finally, contractor Ken Hahn offered to rebuild the structure and allow Hotis to repay him over a period of time.

"Besides being the best businessman, he's a good humanitarian," Hotis says. "You don't find that everyday."
