Teen charged in 2nd alleged plot on Connetquot H.S.
A Suffolk County teenager accused of plotting an attack on students and teachers at Connetquot High School for the second time was indicted today in Riverhead.
Christopher Franko's court appearance fell on his 18th birthday, which was also the day prosecutors say the teen planned on purchasing a shotgun. According to investigators, Franko and his girlfriend, Dana Saltzman, wanted to use the shotgun to carry out a Columbine-style massacre at their former high school June 10.
Prosecutors say Franko's plot was nearly identical to the one he hatched in 2007. Like the first time, officials say Franko had a notebook with diagrams of the school's layout and his goal was to kill as many students as possible.
According to the prosecution, Franko is mentally sound and knew what he was doing. His attorney, however, disagrees and entered a not guilty plea to a felony conspiracy charge. His request to have Franko freed on bail was denied.
The judge issued an order of protection, barring Franko from having any contact with the students at the school. Franko is due back in court July 13.
Saltzman is expected to be arraigned this month on the same felony conspiracy count.
