Jury deciding fate of former cop accused of hiring hit man

A jury is deciding the fate of a police officer accused of hiring a hit man to kill his wife.

Last year, city cop Anthony Battisti, of Franklin Square, allegedly hired a handyman to murder his estranged wife.

Police say the wife was stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver, but survived.

Prosecutors say Battisti wanted custody of their two children.

Battisti is charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. He faces life in prison if convicted.
