Drunken driver sentenced in fatal crash

A Long Island man who killed a mother of two while driving drunk was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison today.

Last year, John Harnage III, 44, slammed his pickup truck into Karen Naclerio-Negrin's car on Route 25A in Smithtown, killing her instantly.

Harnage pleaded guilty to drunken driving and being high on drugs at the time of the accident. It was Harnage's third DWI conviction.

The defense had asked for a sentence of three to nine years. However, the judge decided to go along with the district attorney's recommendation.

Prosecutor Carl Borelli says he hopes Harnage's sentence sends a message to anyone who wants to get behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated.
