Mattituck mom accepts DWI plea deal

Officials say a Mattituck woman is facing six months in jail after accepting a plea deal for drunken driving.

Officials say Caroline Goss admitted to driving drunk with her 6-year-old son when she slammed her SUV into 15-year-old Joseph Marino, of Hampton Bays, last August.

Marino's mother, Dorothy, says the sentence is not nearly long enough.

A spokesman for the district attorney's office says although Goss was drunk, the investigation found she wasn't speeding or reckless. Prosecutors say if they took Goss to court, she may have been exonerated of vehicular manslaughter.

Goss' sentencing is scheduled for June 17. The Marinos will ask the judge to give her at least a year behind bars.
