Woodbury mom: Daughter held by smugglers

A Woodbury woman says her teenage daughter is being held by smugglers who were supposed to bring her from Mexico into the United States.

The woman called police Tuesday claming she received a call from her daughter's alleged captors, who told her they were holding the girl ransom.

Police say Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are investigating the report. The woman told police the smugglers were supposed to bring her daughter into the country illegally.

Nassau Detective Lt. Kevin Smith says details about the 911 call, the investigation and the family are not being released to protect the girl's safety.

Nassau police say it appears no abduction took place on Long Island and the woman's daughter is likely not in New York State.
