Family, friends say goodbye to fallen soldier from LI

More than 2,000 relatives and friends Friday honored a soldier from Long Island who was killed in combat.

Twenty-four-year-old Army Lt. Joseph Theinert was killed by a roadside bomb last week in Afghanistan.

Officials say Theinert had already disabled one IED and was working on disabling a second when it exploded.

They say before the explosion, Theinert was able to warn the men under his command to get back, saving their lives.

Theinert was laid to rest at Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Cemetery.

To see footage of Theinert's coffin returning to Long Island, go to Channel 612 on your iO Digital Cable box and select iO Extra.
