3-year-old boy drowns in pool in Laurel Hollow

A 3-year-old boy drowned in a backyard swimming pool at his grandparents' Laurel Hollow home Saturday, police say.

According to investigators, the Roslyn Heights toddler was visiting his grandparents when he wandered outside the house and fell into the pool. Police say the pool was fenced in, but the lock on the gate was broken.

The boy's grandmother discovered him not breathing at around 12:05 p.m. and called 911, police say. Paramedics who arrived on the scene performed C.P.R. on the 3-year-old, but weren't able to revive him.

The child was rushed to North Shore University Hospital in Syosset, where he was pronounced dead.
