Suffolk operation rounds up 55 fugitives

Suffolk police announced yesterday the arrests of 55 fugitives and suspects after a large-scale operation in May.

Officials say those arrested include six sex offenders, 10 reputed gang members and a man who has been on the run for 20 years. Dozens were also arrested for parole violations.

The arrests were part of Operation Rolling Thunder, which was funded by a Department of Criminal Justice grant. Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy says county police officers were teamed up in task forces to carry out the arrests.

Levy plans on applying for another similar grant in the next few months.
