Teen who allegedly drove high pleads not guilty
The teen accused of driving high on drugs and killing a Hempstead doctor pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter and other charges today.
Kayla Gerdes, of Freeport, faces a 28-count indictment, including manslaughter, for allegedly running down Dr. Rebecca Twine-Wright as she mowed her lawn.
Cops say Gerdes was high on oxycodone and Xanax when she veered off the road and crashed.
Gerdes? passenger and boyfriend Brian Steele will also be indicted in connection with the case. Earlier this month, he was charged in a separate DWI incident.
