Hope fades as Jones Beach firework show canceled again

Officials say the Jones Beach annual fireworks display has been canceled again.

The cancelation is due to state budget problems and a shortage of state police officers to patrol the event.

Officials say there was hope in the past few days that the popular pyrotechnics show could be saved.

Newsday says corporate sponsors had said they would step in to pay for the show.

According to state legislator Steve Engelbright, new officers could not be trained fast enough for adequate security.
