Mom receives 6 months in jail for deadly crash

A Long Island family says it's outraged that a drunken driver that killed their son only received six months in jail.

Officials say Caroline Goss, of Mattituck, crashed into 15-year-old Joseph Marino as he rode his bike in Hampton Bays last August. Marino died from head injuries.

Officials say Goss, a nurse, had an open container of alcohol and her 6-year-old son in the car at the time.

Goss was sentenced yesterday to six months in jail and five years of probation.

During this morning's sentencing, Goss asked Marino's family to forgive her.

In April, Goss pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in exchange for the shortened jail term.

A family attorney says a civil suit against Goss will be filed next week.
