Police nab suspect in 2006 murder of teen

A Hempstead man who police say is responsible for shooting and killing a teenager in 2006 was arrested Friday.

According to authorities, Jonathan Mayzick, 22, shot 18-year-old Ryan Harris in the head on Thanksgiving Eve. Police believe Mayzick was killed in retaliation for a fight that he wasn't involved in.

"The community stepped up and provided us with new leads to track down, which we were able to do," says Detective Lt. John Azzata, of the Nassau County Police Department.

Mayzick was leaving prison in Comstock, N.Y., after serving two and a half years for an unrelated assault when police arrested him in the Harris murder.

Mayzick was arraigned today on a second-degree murder charge.
