38th annual Shark Tournament held in Freeport

The 38th annual Shark Tournament was held Friday in Freeport. The goal of the tournament is to catch the biggest shark and bring it into Guy Lombardo Marina. However, the Hudson Anglers who host the event say it's not just for sport.

Shark Tournament Director David Gross says a portion of the proceeds from T-shirt sales at the event are donated to charity, as is the meat of the sharks.

Nancy Kohler, of the National Marine Fishery Service, says tournaments like the one in Freeport also help scientists collect biological information about sharks.

However, protesters insist that the tournament does more harm than good. Animal-rights activists say the tournament is an example of why sharks are becoming endangered.
