Shinnecocks pick top choices for casino site
The Shinnecock Indian Nation has picked its top locations to build a casino, according to Newsday.
The tribe is reportedly looking at Nassau Coliseum and Brookhaven Calabro Airport.
If the Shinnecocks go ahead with Nassau Coliseum as its site, the casino would be built on the same spot as the stalled Lighthouse Project. However, the tribe would not need town approval for the project.
Six-hundred-acre Calabro Airport in Shirley, meanwhile, is owned by the Town of Brookhaven.
Tribal leaders were also considering locations in the Hamptons and Queens.
Officials say lawmakers in Albany would have to sign off on any plan before the tribe receives approval.
